Booking & payment information
Please read this information before booking Exeter HandyFix. An enquiry does not create a confirmed booking. Full booking terms, trader details and any applicable cancellation information will be supplied directly before you agree to the work or pay a deposit.
Booking and agreeing the work
An enquiry is not a confirmed booking. Before a booking is confirmed, I will provide a written description of the agreed work, whether the price is fixed or based on time, any estimated duration, the payment schedule and any agreed additional charges. You will receive these terms and any applicable cancellation information in a form you can keep.
A booking is confirmed when both parties agree those details in writing and any required deposit is received. Any job-specific changes to these terms will be agreed before booking; statutory rights always apply.
Deposits and advance payments
Where the agreed labour price or estimate is under £160, a £50 deposit is payable before the appointment is confirmed. Where the labour price or estimate is £160 or more, the deposit is 40% of labour. The £160 threshold excludes materials, which are billed separately.
The exact amount and due date will be stated in the booking confirmation. Deposits are part-payment towards the final invoice, not an additional fee. Work will not begin until any agreed advance payments are received.
Deposits are not automatically non-refundable: cancellation and refund rights are explained below. Deposit requirements will be agreed before booking and do not change an existing confirmed booking without your agreement.
Labour, materials and final payment
All advertised rates are for labour only. Materials are billed separately. No VAT is charged.
Fixed-price quotes cover only the work and items specified; estimates indicate the expected cost and are not a fixed price. For time-based work, the applicable minimum charge, hourly rate and billing increments will be confirmed before booking. Any proposed change to the estimate will be discussed before additional work is carried out.
Materials purchased specifically for your job may require advance payment of an agreed amount before ordering. Any sourcing or collection charge will be disclosed and agreed beforehand. Unless a different schedule is agreed in writing, the balance is due on completion against an itemised invoice, less payments already made.
Payment is accepted by bank transfer or online card payment via Stripe. Payment details or a card payment link will be provided directly. Please use the booking or invoice reference when paying.
For longer projects, stage payments must be agreed in advance and linked to the work or materials provided. Nothing in this section limits your rights if work or goods are faulty.
Your statutory right to cancel
Where the law gives you a cancellation right for a booking made at a distance or away from business premises, you can cancel a service contract without giving a reason until the end of 14 days after the day the contract is entered into. I will provide the applicable cancellation information and model cancellation form before the contract is made. To cancel, send a clear statement to hello@exeterhandyfix.co.uk or use the postal contact details in your booking confirmation.
You may use the supplied form, but do not have to. Send your cancellation before the period expires. For qualifying cancellations, payments will be refunded within 14 days of being informed, using the original payment method unless you agree otherwise, without a refund fee.
The lawful exception for services you expressly requested during the cancellation period is explained below. Where materials or goods form part of a contract, their applicable cancellation and return rights will also be explained before ordering; ordering an ordinary item for your job does not by itself make it non-refundable.
Asking for work within the cancellation period
If you want work to start during an applicable 14-day cancellation period, I will obtain your express request before starting, recorded on paper or another durable medium where required. I will also explain any proportionate charge for work supplied if you cancel before completion. You lose the service cancellation right only when the service has been fully performed, following your express request and acknowledgement in advance that full performance ends that right.
A request to start early does not immediately remove all cancellation rights. Without the necessary request and information, I will not claim a charge that the law does not allow.
Other cancellations, rearrangements and failed access
Please give as much notice as possible if you need to cancel or rearrange. Outside any statutory cancellation right, a cancellation or failed-access charge will apply only where disclosed and agreed before booking and where fair and lawful. It will be limited to reasonable, evidenced net loss caused by the cancellation, taking account of costs saved, recoverable materials and any replacement booking.
I will take reasonable steps to reduce the loss, explain any deduction and refund any remaining advance payment. I will not automatically charge the whole job price or retain the whole deposit. If I cancel and a replacement date is not agreed, advance payments for work not supplied will be refunded promptly; your statutory rights are unaffected.
Access, working area, travel and parking
Please arrange agreed access, authority to approve the work and a reasonably clear, safe working area. Tell me beforehand about access restrictions, pets, parking arrangements and any known hazards. Local travel within the agreed service area is included in the booking price.
Any additional travel charge will be agreed before booking. Parking charges are extra only where discussed and agreed in advance. Hourly labour starts on arrival at the job.
Any waiting time or return visit caused by unavailable access, missing items or customer-requested delays will be discussed, and chargeable only on the agreed basis. There is no automatic extra fee.
Materials and items you supply
Please check customer-supplied furniture, fittings and materials are suitable, complete and available before the visit. Missing parts, faulty products or unsuitable fittings may prevent completion. I will explain the issue and agree any change to the work, time or return visit before proceeding.
I remain responsible for carrying out my work with reasonable care and skill. This does not remove your rights concerning goods I supply or damage caused by my work.
Hidden defects, extra work and safety
A quote assumes the visible and described conditions unless stated otherwise. If hidden damage, unsuitable walls or surfaces, concealed services, missing parts or another unexpected condition is discovered, work will pause where necessary. I will explain the options and obtain approval for changes to the scope or price before continuing.
I may decline or stop work that is unsafe or outside the agreed service, explaining the reason and discussing next steps. Any payment for work already carried out or materials supplied must remain fair and lawful. Gas work, electrical work requiring specialist qualifications, hazardous-material removal and other specialist services are not included unless separately and lawfully arranged.
Tidying, packaging and rubbish
Routine tidying of the immediate work area is included. Removal or off-site disposal of packaging, old furniture, removed fittings, rubble or other rubbish is not included unless expressly stated in the quote. I will agree a safe place to leave waste on site; please arrange appropriate disposal.
Waste will not be left in household bins without your agreement and confirmation that this is permitted. Off-site waste removal will only be offered under a separate written arrangement stating the charge and using any required registered carrier and authorised disposal facility. Hazardous or suspected hazardous waste, including asbestos, is excluded.
No waste-removal service is promised by these terms.
Finish, completion and concerns
I will discuss relevant finish limitations before starting, including difficulties matching existing paint colours, sheen, aged surfaces or discontinued fittings. Please follow any drying, curing or use instructions supplied. Where practical, I will review the completed work with you.
Inspection or payment does not remove your statutory rights. If you notice a problem, contact hello@exeterhandyfix.co.uk with the booking details and a description or photos. Please allow a reasonable opportunity to inspect and put right an issue where appropriate.
Work will be carried out with reasonable care and skill, and your rights to remedies under consumer law remain unaffected.
